Sri Lanka Railways runs the coastal line south to Galle and Matara and the hill-country line from Colombo through Kandy to Nanu Oya, for Nuwara Eliya, and on to Ella and Badulla. The Kandy–Ella stretch, through tea estates and over bridges, takes most of a day and is one of the great train rides in Asia. Reserved seats sell out early in high season; book in advance through Sri Lanka Railways.
