Traffic, narrow hill roads and tuk-tuks make driving demanding, so most visitors hire a car with a driver for a few days or a full tour. Book through your hotel, a rental company or an operator registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), and agree the route, days and what is included (fuel, the driver’s meals and lodging, expressway tolls) in writing.
