Negombo after dark: rooftops, pubs and the beach strip
The back story

About Negombo after dark: rooftops, pubs and the beach strip
Most of Negombo’s evening life is on the beach strip north of the town, along Poruthota Road and Lewis Place, where hotels, restaurants and bars line the road behind the sand.
The beach strip
Poruthota Road and Lewis Place, north of the town, are lined with seafood restaurants, bars and hotels. Many places put tables out under the palms in the evening.
Rooftops
The Sundown Rooftop Bar, on top of Hotel J on Lewis Place, is popular for its sunset views over the sea. At the Regal Réseau hotel, the Sky Track lounge sits on the roof beside an infinity pool, with views along the beach and live music on some nights.
Start with a sunset on a rooftop, then walk the beach road to dinner: Negombo makes a fine first or last night.
Pubs
The Rodeo Pub on Poruthota Road is one of the long-standing places on the strip, a casual pub and restaurant.
Getting around
Tuk-tuks wait along the beach road; agree the fare first or use a ride-hailing app. Bars and restaurants close earlier than in many beach towns, so do not leave dinner too late.
A good evening
Watch the sunset from a rooftop, then have dinner of lagoon crab or hot butter cuttlefish on the beach road. If you have an early flight, remember the airport is only 20–30 minutes away.
Our advice: keep your first night in Negombo simple: a sundowner on a rooftop, seafood by the beach and an early night, ready to start your trip.
