Ammachchi (“grandmother”) food centres, found in the north including on the Jaffna road in Vavuniya, are traditional eateries where local women cook and sell Jaffna-style dishes: thosai, idli, vadai, pittu and sweets. They are busy, simple and very good value. Ask locally for the nearest one.
