About Wilpattu National Park

Wilpattu, in the north-west, is the largest of Sri Lanka’s national parks: dense forest dotted with “villus”, natural lakes that draw animals in the dry season. Leopards, sloth bears, elephants and many birds live here, and because the park is big and far from the main tourist routes, safaris are quieter than in Yala. The nearest towns are Anuradhapura and Puttalam.

Why it's on our list

  • Largest park
  • Natural lakes
  • Quieter than Yala

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Wilpattu National Park before you go.
