The deep water off Dondra Head is one of the best places in the world to see blue whales, and boats leave Mirissa harbour early in the morning from about December to April. Trips last several hours and the sea can be rough. Choose an operator that keeps its distance from the whales and limits the number of boats around them, and avoid any that chase or crowd the animals.
